I paint in a traditional and figurative style. My main influences have been the impressionists, Alfred Sisley, Mary Cassatt and Edgar Degas. I also admire J.M.W. Turner, particularly the later works from 1830 onwards.
I have always enjoyed the challenge of capturing something of the likeness and character of the model. My favourite medium for portraits is Soft Pastel. I like its softness and malleability and the luminosity of the colours.
I also gain inspiration from the landscapes of the East Coast, from North Yorkshire as far as Northumberland. I enjoy painting the attractive and unspoilt harbours and villages, usually in oils.
