My work comes from my memory and imagination. My native Scotland, Cornwall, Ireland and also the Lake District have inspired me. I’m looking to create atmospheric, emotive paintings. Sometimes there is a figure present, standing, watching, waiting or overseeing the landscape. At other times, it's simply the landscape where I'm trying to convey the 'feeling' of a place. Many of the paintings I think stem from childhood memories of the West Coast of Scotland and Loch Lomond. I want a poetic, romantic, narrative element in the work. I like to work in series using different media ranging from oils, oil pastels and inks to acrylics and pencils. My travel sketchbooks and my printmaking feed into my practice providing useful references and ideas.
