Sheila Carey

My paintings and drawings always originate from perceived images and from very different sources. Always colour and colour interactions are paramount, together with light. Source material can range from landscape to still life, the life model or a pile of screwed up wrapping paper. Once a certain point has been reached, imagination takes over.

Although willing to try a different medium to obtain the result I want, oil paint is the medium I most enjoy using. I love the fluidity of the paint and the way it moves and mixes on the canvas. My oil paintings usually are work in progress, sometimes for as long as two years Ð but I always have several paintings in progress. A breakthrough or discovery in one painting will influence the way the other paintings proceed.
