Join Leeds Fine Artists

Applications to join LFA are welcomed from fine artists practising in all areas of the visual and applied arts.

Advantages of joining LFA
LFA is one of the oldest and most prestigious arts organisations in the North of England, with an annual exhibition currently held at the Dean Clough Gallery in Halifax. Additional exhibitions for members are also organised each year.

The LFA website publicises its group activities and also the exhibitions of individual members, updated on a monthly basis. The LFA website provides a low cost personal webpage for each artist, which includes a gallery page with an artist’s statement and a display of up to 12 images.

In addition to the website, LFA also publicises the activities of its members via Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and the monthly Newsline which is distributed to all interested parties by email.

LFA also publishes books to promote the work of its members. To date there have been three books published, as detailed on the Publications page of the website.

How to Join LFA

Exhibiting Membership is by election, decided by a panel of current members. They look for a high standard in applicants’ work, including its quality, content and consistency as well as a professional approach to exhibiting.

Artists are asked to submit a selection of their work to be considered for election. This should include at least four finished pieces of work presented professionally and framed, if appropriate, to exhibition standard. Candidates will also be asked to submit a CV giving contact details, social media sites, art education, exhibitions and a statement on their work. They will also be asked to provide a portfolio of up to 10 pieces of work to support their application. The portfolio can include other works, drawings and sketch-books as well as evidence of background work.

The work should speak for itself as the artist will be asked to deliver and leave the work on the election date. The artist will not be able to attend or meet the Election Panel.

Election of New Members: Autumn 2025

The next membership election will be held in October 2025, and applications will open in August 2025.

Applications to become a ‘Friend of LFA’ are also welcome from people who do not wish to exhibit, but who are nevertheless interested in fine art and wish to engage with the activities of LFA. Prospective Friends need to express their interest by contacting LFA through the website contact page. There is no selection process but a membership fee is payable.

All members, including Friends, receive LFA’s regular newsletter and invitations to exhibitions and events, as well as being encouraged to become members of LFA’s Executive Committee and be involved in the organisation of LFA.
