Sally Gatie

Sally is a contemporary painter working in oils and living on the North Yorkshire coast. She studied Graphic Design at Leeds Polytechnic, and after working in Architectural and Engineering drawing offices in London, she returned to Yorkshire and graduated in Fine Art at York University. While balancing family, an art degree and her newfound interest in meditation, these interests naturally evolved into her artwork.

Sally’s subject matter is intimately close; she uses her family as her models, the patterned fabrics are familiar throughout her home. She creates a reminder of personal emotions and memories on each canvas, showing a private view of a woman’s life, exploring ideas of birth, motherhood, nurturing and femininity.

Colour, texture, and pattern are a common thread in Sally’s paintings, from the printed design on a duvet cover to the colourful floral print dresses hanging in her wardrobe, each one evoking a particular memory.
