Luisa Holden
I grew up in North Wales and studied Fine Art at the North Wales Institute of Fine Art in Wrexham but have spent most of my adult life in Yorkshire.
I would describe myself as a contemporary expressionist painter, working spontaneously in a semi abstract/abstract style. My work often features the North Yorkshire Moors, Yorkshire, Northumberland and Cornish coastlines and still life. Working primarily in acrylics & mixed media, I favour a muted, unifying colour palette and subtle mixes. I enjoy capturing light and atmosphere preferring to get the ‘sense’ of a picture rather than relating too much detail. Texture is important to me in my work and I like to build up varying textural and tonal contrasts using a brush and palette knife.
My work has been exhibited widely throughout Yorkshire, including a solo show at the Helmsley Arts Centre in 2019. I have exhibited with the Society of Women Artists at the Mall Galleries in London regularly since 2015 and in 2023 I was elected full membership of the SWA. I have exhibited at the Great North Art Show, Ripon Cathedral (2015), Ferens Art Gallery, Hull (2018), LFA Showcase 2019 (Huddersfield Art Gallery), LFA Dean Clough 2018/19 and in 2020 I was invited to take part in an online exhibition with Highgate Contemporary Art Gallery entitled “Interpretations of Landscape”. I have been featured in The International Artist Magazine (Oct/Nov ’23 issue) and Art & Color 365 Magazine (Summer ’23 issue). I have collections of work in the US, Sweden, Germany, Eire and Australia.
