Karen Horsfall
I am a ceramic sculptor originally from Leeds, now residing in Hedon, East Yorkshire. I recently graduated from Hull University with a First-class honours degree in Fine Art.
I have exhibited my work in various galleries across Yorkshire and have recently completed a research residency with HARI (Hull Artist Research Initiative).
Currently, my artistic focus revolves around recreating personal effects, such as bags, shoes, and clothes, using clay as my primary medium. In my creations, I incorporate elements of the real items, resulting in a unique marriage of materials.
My work aims to bridge the gap between perception and touch. The presence of absence. Possessions have a remarkable ability to outlast us, and my art seeks to explore whether they can capture the essence of our being. What we wear becomes an integral part of who we are. In particular, leather items bear marks and stains from wear and tear, serving as a visual diary of our lives.
