Catherine Warburton

I am essentially a mark-maker. I love to find different pieces of fabric, stitch them together using a variety of machine or hand stitching, marrying the piece as a whole to work in colour and composition. My subject matter surrounds me, flowers from the garden, my family, landscapes, places visited whilst on holiday. I try to keep my colours bright and vibrant with a strong emphasis on shape and pattern.

I have always enjoyed painting still life but adding collage gives definition and makes the shapes stand out. I now keep a collection of painted papers for this purpose. I always use up left over paint by scraping it onto paper and keeping it for a later piece of work.
