Last spring I was busy working on new prints for a solo show, which was the culmination of a 2-year funded project with the Dales Countryside Museum. As my diary totally cleared during lockdown, I welcomed the extra time with no distractions to focus on making the work. The exhibition eventually opened and was pretty successful all things considered. Lockdown two came during the run up to Christmas so I opened an Etsy shop and offered \u2018click and buy\u2019, which kept me pretty busy. Now we\u2019re in the third lockdown and I\u2019d normally kick-start my creative year with a visit to a studio in Sweden for a fortnight but that is not possible. Despite only being down the end of the garden my studio hasn\u2019t felt very enticing in the bad weather and, like many people, I\u2019ve struggled to remain motivated. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
So I\u2019ve decided to start a personal project which will also mark the fact that I am fifty in March. I\u2019m making a set of 50 prints that each fit within a 4\u201dx 6\u201d format and that are inspired by things that I\u2019ve seen during 2021. I\u2019m planning to complete this by the end of December so it will take place over a calendar year and I\u2019m calling my project \u201950 things\u2019. I\u2019m keeping them simple and so far I\u2019ve created collagraphs about rescuing a kestrel with a frozen tail, the first time I\u2019ve seen a dabchick on the Ribble, animal tracks in the snow, an elderly rook and a barn owl seen by headtorch on a night run. I\u2019m not sure what I\u2019ll do with them, if anything, but I hope to be able to look back through a little album of 50 postcard size prints and be reminded of the good things in 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
