Allotment in winter

Allotment paraphernalia

I have recently been painting allotments with all the paraphernalia that goes with an urban allotment. These two paintings are oils and are 30 x 25 cms.

During lockdown I have been discovering lots of artists whose work I admire. I always browse the exhibitions at the Bankside Gallery and the Mall Galleries but I particularly like Haidee-Jo Summer’s ‘alla prima’ oil paintings, and I admire the still life paintings by Penny German – I find still life subjects so difficult to set up where I work. Here are also 3 ‘older’ paintings which I love: A wall in Naples, by Thomas Jones c.1782 (National Gallery), Le Passeur, by William Stott of Oldham 1881 (Tate Gallery) and The artist in his Studio, by William Orpen 1910 (Leeds Art Gallery.)
