Precentor’s Court, York, oil, 24 x 24 cm
York, Exhibition Paintings
For the Blossom Street exhibition I wanted to include a view of York from a relatively unusual location, the Precentor’s Court, with an intriguing restricted view of the Minster. To reflect the period of lockdowns when travel and tourism was prohibited I felt it was appropriate to not include people in the scene“A Quiet Corner, Buxton”, similarly empty of people, intends to evoke quietude in an urban setting and I thought this was a suitable companion piece for “Precentor’s Court, York”.
Both oil paintings were worked up in my studio from sketches done on pre-lockdown visits to these locations. With the relaxation of lockdown rules and the arrival of some warm spring weather I have now happily resumed plein air painting.
