Abisoye Ojosipe

My artwork focuses on painting portraits of people, exploring the feeling and inner life of the person I paint. I use both oil paints and acrylic paints in my creative process.

In my work, I try to capture a moment of quiet strength and personal truth in the person I am portraying. I am most interested in what a person is thinking or feeling but not saying out loud—their unspoken emotions. I aim for my portraits to be more than just a picture of someone; I want them to be a celebration of that person’s unique spirit and who they are.

My technique uses light and shadow in a strong way to make the person stand out from the background. I want the face to feel very present and real to the viewer. When you look at one of my paintings, I want you to feel connected to that individual, seeing their complexity and their resilience emerge from the canvas.
