Neil Pittaway

Neil was born in Wakefield, Yorkshire in 1973. He studied at Cheltenham School of Art from 1993-96, the University of Bradford 1996-1998, the Royal Academy Schools, London,1998-2001and the University of Huddersfield, 2003-04.

Neil is a Fellow of both the Royal Watercolour Society (RWS) and the Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers (RE) and an exhibiting Member of Leeds Fine Artists (LFA). Neil’s work is in public collections including the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford; Bankside Gallery, RWS & RE Collection, London; Victoria and Albert Museum, London; St. Paul’s Cathedral Library, London; Guild Hall Art Library, London; The Arts Club, Dover Street, London; the D.H. Lawrence Museum and Birthplace, Nottingham; the Indian Institute of Contemporary Art, Mumbai, India; H.M. The Queen, The Royal Collection and The Collection of Heritage Malta, Valletta, Malta.

Neil has contributed to the Great Artists’ series for Channel 5 TV, and has been featured on BBC Radio Norfolk. Neil was commissioned to illustrate ‘London in Poetry and Prose’, edited by Anna Adams, which was first published by Enitharmon Press in 2003. Neil has won over 17 Awards for his work which include the British Institution Prize for both drawing and then printmaking, Summer Exhibition, Royal Academy of Arts, The Ashmolean Museum, Oxford, Vivien Leigh Bequest Prize, The Arts Club, London Excellence in Drawing Award.

Neil has exhibited nationally and internationally including exhibitions in the USA, India, Kenya, Taiwan, Malta, Italy and the UK including the Royal Academy of Arts, Royal Albert Hall, Waterstones Piccadilly, London, Museum of Modern Art Nairobi and the British Council Gallery, New Delhi .

In Neil’s work travel, discovery, the Enlightenment, Gothic revival, satire and historical heritage, are used to create a labyrinth of visual histories.
